The Tom Harris Community Foundation is proud to announce the resounding success of the 6th Annual Tom Harris Charity Classic, which raised $825,000 to support youth and healthcare programs throughout central Vancouver Island.
Held on Friday, June 20 at the Nanaimo Golf Club, the one-day tournament brought together a sold-out roster of golfers, dozens of community volunteers, and more than 40 local business sponsors. The event featured 18 holes of golf, brunch & dinner celebration, live auction, and fireworks display, all in support of causes that reflect the Foundation’s commitment to building stronger, healthier communities.
“This event has always been about more than golf,” said Tony Harris, Chair of the Tom Harris Community Foundation. “It’s about honouring my father’s legacy and bringing people together to make a real difference where it’s needed most. Seeing our community show up with such generosity, year after year, is truly humbling.”
Supporting Youth and Healthcare
Proceeds from this year’s event will directly benefit key youth-focused and healthcare initiatives, including support for food security, education, and access to sports for young people.
A significant portion will also contribute to the purchase of a new SPECT/CT diagnostic imaging camera for Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. This would be a vital tool for detecting and treating cancer, cardiac conditions, and other serious illnesses. The new equipment is part of a larger, $2.9-million campaign led by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, which Tony Harris also chairs.
$4 Million Raised and Counting
With this year’s total, the Tom Harris Charity Classic has now raised over $4 million since its inception in 2018.
“We’re incredibly proud of what this community continues to achieve,” Harris said. “The support we see, whether it’s a major sponsorship or a $100 donation, shows that giving is part of our culture here. That spirit is what drives the Foundation forward.”
The Tom Harris Community Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to every golfer, sponsor, donor, and volunteer who helped make this event possible. Plans are already underway for the 2026 tournament.
