The Tom Harris Community Foundation (THCF) sponsored the Kids Zone at this year’s Bathtub Days, contributing $15,000 to support family-friendly programming during the popular summer festival.
Held July 25 to 27 in downtown Nanaimo, Bathtub Days drew thousands of visitors to Maffeo Sutton Park for a weekend of concerts, live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, and community activities.
The event culminated with the World Championship Bathtub Race on Sunday, where around 50 competitors navigated a nearly 60-kilometre course around the Winchelsea Islands.
Supporting Families & Healthcare
The THCF-funded Kids Zone provided a dedicated space for families and children to enjoy games, activities, and entertainment throughout the weekend.
Proceeds from the event also supported the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, helping to fund healthcare initiatives in the region.
“Bathtub Weekend and the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation were close to Tom’s heart,” said Tony Harris, founder and chair of THCF. “We’re proud to continue supporting these community traditions and causes that make a difference for families in our region.”
A Legacy of Giving
THCF has contributed $30,000 to the Kids Zone over the past two years, covering costs to ensure the attraction remains free for families to enjoy. THCF’s sponsorship is part of its ongoing commitment to youth programs, healthcare, and initiatives that strengthen the mid-Island community.
Alongside the Kids Zone, festival highlights included the Saturday morning parade, featuring 60 participating organizations and a Victoria-based marching band, and a new live-stream broadcast of Sunday’s bathtub race.
The Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society organizes the annual event, which continues to grow in scope and attendance. Organizers described the weekend as a major success for community engagement and fundraising. For full race results and more about this year’s festivities, visit the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society’s website.
